WHO WE ARE
We are established CA licensed residential architects with an office/storefront on Foothill in La Canada.
Bunch Design was founded in 2010. From the start the studio focused on residential architecture working on tricky sites, moderate budgets, unconventional programs, trying to bring space and delight to everyday homes. Bunch have worked on countless remodels and new builds; and since the state law changed in 2017, have constructed over 30 ground up ADU’s.
Over 90% of designed projects are built. We do this through good due diligence, thoughtful design, and close communication with home owners.
Bunch Design believes that Form Follows Space, meaning that we focus on volume and the interior spaces first. We spend majority of our time inside the house. So let’s make it count. You perceive space, so that means you can mess with that perception too. We seek lightness and ways to make small spaces feel large, and generally to break the barrier between inside and outside.
We put a strong emphasis on the inventive use of materials, qualities of light, use of structure, and the relationship between the space and its users. We consider these issues to be more important than working in a particular style and hope that each project will be an original interpretation of client, site, brief and budget.
For us, design is a collaboration between many disciplines, experts, and craftsmen all coming together to make a clear idea and dream a reality. This is the genesis of our company’s name. We hope there is a project that can bring you into our group.

Architect, Design Lead
Bo grew up on a farm outside Nashville. He likes to credit his early design aspirations to the fact that he could fish from the living room of the family house. After college he was called west to Los Angeles where he met Hisako at SCI-Arc. A literature major before studying architecture, Bo is interested in the narrative power of places. He sees design as a woven relationship between people, space and their actions. When brought together in a thoughtful and beautiful way, the new relationships can be fluid, visceral and electrically charged.
Bo graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Brown University in Rhode Island and in 2001 with a Masters of Architecture from SCI-Arc (Southern California Institute of Architecture) where he won a National AIA Merit Award. He is a licensed architect in the state of California and has worked for Jerde, Gensler and Roto Architects before founding Bunch Design.

Design Lead
Hisako was born in the ancient city of Kamakura and immigrated to Los Angeles in 1998. Her experiences growing up in Japan relive in her warm and simple design style, a style that is both unique and surprisingly compatible with Los Angeles' lifestyle and design needs. Whether her design is large, medium, or something so small that it can fit inside the palm of your hand, Hisako is committed to making ideas that are simple, effective and unheard of.
Hisako graduated in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts in Policy Management from Keio University in Tokyo Japan and in 2001 with Masters of Architecture from SCI-Arc (Southern California Institute of Architecture). Since giving her thesis “Serendip(city)” at SCI-Arc on public space and art she has been investigating the relationship between creativity and found space. Hisako has taught Architecture Studios at UCLA and SCI-Arc.

Project Architect
For Yisi Yu, architecture is not only about form and function, but a living container of lifestyle, memory, and culture. Growing up in China, she developed a deep appreciation for how traditional Chinese architecture harmonizes with nature, embodies cultural values, and shapes the human experience.
Yisi received her Bachelor of Architecture from Wuhan University and later earned her Master of Architecture from the University of Southern California. Prior to joining Bunch, she spent more than a decade at design firms such as The Jerde Partnership and 5+design for large scale retail projects.

Luna is a spatial enthusiast weaving narratives between different cultures and scales. Born in Chongqing, her early fascination with vertical megastructures emerged from the city’s mountainous chaos and layered cultural hybridity. Later, Beijing’s hutongs reshaped her gaze toward horizontal social tapestries, while Suzhou’s gardens taught her to frame human connections through winding corridors and whispered vistas.
She holds a 5-year Bachelor of Architecture from Tsinghua University and a Master’s from UCLA. She also briefly worked in Beijing and Suzhou for a year. Immersion in Los Angeles’ dispersed suburban landscapes redirected her focus toward micro-dwellings and domestic narratives. Her academic samples oscillate between speculative urban interventions and tactile housing studies, questioning how design can amplify marginalized communities within hyper-dense cities. Here in Los Angeles density, a totally new story, she seeks architectures that translate cultural collisions into empathetic, human-scaled stories.

Andy holds a Master of Architecture from SCI-Arc and brings a background in interior design, with experience on residential and commercial projects in New York. His design approach emphasizes the emotional and social qualities of space, shaped by the interplay of sequence, flow, color, and nature. Outside of design, he enjoys rock climbing and exploring, pursuits that inspire balance and creativity in his work.

Naho was born and grew up in Japan. Because of her father’s job, her family moved around the country quite often and even abroad. These relocations taught her importance of a home, especially that of her personal room to be always welcoming and comfortable.
Naho graduated from St. Margaret’s Junior College in Japan and studied Horticulture in Sparsholt College Hampshire in England. After working for several years in Tokyo, she moved to Los Angeles and graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture from SCI-Arc where she first met Hisako and interned at Bunch. She briefly worked with a friend to design Japanese restaurants in Los Angeles before joining Bunch in 2014.

Project Manager
Christina was born and raised in Southern California, a graduate of both UCLA and SCI-Arc. With a bachelor’s degree in art history and a specialization in the history of architecture, she worked several years as an administrative and marketing assistant at STUDIOS Architecture in Washington DC before deciding to pursue a master’s degree in architecture at SCI-ARC. Space, volume and materiality have always fascinated her. She is particularly interested in how people interact with, inhabit and alter their built environment.
After attending SCI-Arc, where she met Bo and Hisako, she joined Hisako in working for Osborn Architects in Glendale, California. At Osborn Christina worked on the firm’s residential projects (including the award-winning Meyerhofer Residence in La Canada) as well as several educational projects. After seven years of consulting and completing small projects on her own, she joins Bunch to assist in the Eaton Fire Re-Build effort.
